On May 27, 2018, the Pathfinders and Community Services Department of the Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church planted   sixty-nine coconut trees on two beaches in their district.  The group planted at Trellis Bay and Josiah Bay. Since hurricane Irma the beaches where looking unpleasant so the Pathfinders decided to plant coconut trees to help to improve the appearance of the popular beaches.

The group was welcomed by business owners and other persons that visit the bay often.  There was a lot excitement as the planting of the trees showed community spirit. Persons were even more excited to see the youths as they worked. The Pathfinders worked enthusiastically to dig holes, plant the trees then water them at the end to give the trees a good start.

At the end of the tree planting, Pathfinders reported how happy they were to participate in such a project.  “Even though it was hard work, it was fun work” said Pathfinder Drae. “I enjoyed myself even though it was hard” Said the Director Lionel Penn.

The Maranatha Church thanked the BVI Tourist Board for donating over 200 coconut trees. They are also thanked business owners for pledging to water the trees until they get bigger.  Over the next few weeks and months, the church will be demonstrating its commitment by ensuring that the trees are cared for until they can survive on their own. 

The Pathfinders continue to follow-up on this community project and are quite pleased with the level of success.  The coconut trees are thriving and have enhanced the beauty of the shoreline, much to the delight of the business owners, visitors and our Tourist Board Partners. 

Our club was also instrumental in planting coconut trees on severayl beaches on

the island of Tortola.  We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to our environment and community in such a meaningful way. We will continue to seek opportunities to give back to our community and in so doing, be a positive witness as Christian Adventist Youths.  To God Be The Glory!
