The British Virgin Islands Seventh-Day Adventist School proudly witnessed a historic moment as the graduating members of Alpha Chi Rho, the local chapter of the National English Honor Society for Secondary Schools (NEHS), donned their full regalia for the first time. In a remarkable display of academic achievement, the students adorned cords, medallions, and stoles featuring the society's distinguished insignia.

This momentous occasion marked the second batch of students to graduate from the esteemed Alpha Chi Rho chapter, which was established under the guidance of lead advisor Mrs. Ysanna John, who played a pivotal role in spearheading the launch of the local chapter in September 2021, paving the way for students to receive recognition for their excellence in English and literature. Alpha Chi Rho is the only English Honor Society for High School students in The English-speaking Caribbean.

Under the motto "Duty Goes Before Honor," the NEHS aims to acknowledge the remarkable accomplishments of students and faculty who excel in the field of English and literature. Assistant Advisor, Mrs. Ann- Marie John was instrumental in providing a platform to students in their senior program to showcase their talents and abilities.  The society seeks to nurture their potential and create opportunities for grants and scholarships to pursue further studies. 

The graduation ceremony was a sight to behold as the graduating members proudly displayed their academic achievements through their regalia. The cords, medallions, and stoles embellished with the society's insignia symbolized their dedication, hard work, and commitment to the pursuit of knowledge in English and literature. Of the 40 graduating seniors,16 are members of the society, including the Valedictorian, Ms. Aniyah Williams, Salutatorian, Ms. Naomi Thompkins, Head boy Mr. Khemoe Foye jr., and chapter president and Head Girl, Ms. Angelique Gurley. Director of NEHS, Christopher Lockwood witnessed the ceremony via the school’s Facebook page, and extended his congratulatory remarks to the graduates. Additionally, Education Director of The North Caribbean Conference of SDA, Mrs. Gerene Joseph, NCC Secretary Wilmoth James, members of government and opposition, and members of the SDA family and other community members were in attendance to support and congratulate these students.

Beaming with pride, Mrs. John expressed her joy at witnessing the success of the local chapter's second batch of graduates. She commended their diligence, passion, and unwavering dedication to the study of English and literature, and highlighted the significance of the regalia, emphasizing that it symbolizes the exceptional achievements and potential of each graduate.

The Alpha Chi Rho chapter of the National English Honor Society has not only recognized and celebrated academic excellence but has also fostered a sense of community among its members. The society has created a platform for students and faculty to collaborate, inspire one another, and contribute to the vibrant literary landscape of the British Virgin Islands and beyond.
