Berets…Sombreros…Fedoras…Bushhats…Bowlers…Visors…Ascots…Sunhats…StyleMyOwnHat – these were included in the array of decorative headgear, along with an assortment of neckwear, on “Hat and Tie Day” at the Seventh-day Adventist School. This school-wide fundraising initiative was organized by the Math and Language Committee to cover expenses for the various Math and Language Enhancement Programs/ Activities that are planned for this school year. All were asked to bring $1 if they wore a hat and tie to school on that day – and $2 if they did not.
On December 11, 2018, students were encouraged to design creative hats and ties and the students with the most creatively designed hat and tie received a prize. There were 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in two age categories – Cycle 1 (K- G2) and Cycle 2 (G3-G6). Winners were selected on the intensity of the responsive applause.
This was the first time such an event was held and there are plans to make it an annual event. This year, the students did not have an opportunity to research and present the history of their selections. However, the entire school (including teachers and management) participated during the festive parade of head and neckwear.
