The St. Croix Seventh Day Adventist School’s moot court team achieved a major victory in the Virgin Islands’ Regional Moot Court Competition held April 20, 2023. The team emerged as the first runner up, with an outstanding orator in the person of Eden Smith among them. Eden placed third from a field of five most outstanding orators.
The competition was fierce, with several teams from various schools in St. Croix and St. Thomas participating. The St. Croix SDA School’s team impressed the judges with their in-depth legal knowledge, effective presentation skills, and critical thinking abilities. It’s the first time in the last ten years the school has achieved that feat and the principal Ms. Berthier expressed pride in their accomplishment.
The team had been preparing for the competition for months, working closely with their teacher coach and two attorney coaches to hone their skills and develop their arguments. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they advanced through the rounds and ultimately secured the first runner-up position in the competition.
The outstanding orator from the St. Croix SDA School team also received recognition for his exceptional performance during the competition. His ability to articulate complex legal arguments and respond to questions from the bench with confidence and clarity was impressive.
The team’s coaches, who has been working with the students for months, expressed their delight at their performance. “I am incredibly proud of these students for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism. They have demonstrated exceptional legal skills, and their success in the competition is well-deserved,” commented attorneys Fulkerson and O’Neil.
The St. Croix SDA School’s victory in the moot court competition is a testament to the school’s commitment to academic excellence and the quality of education it provides. The competition has helped prepare the students for future legal careers, and their success serves as an inspiration to other students at the school.
Overall, the St. Croix SDA School’s moot court team has proven that with hard work, dedication, a passion for the law and God, anything is possible. Congratulations to the team and their teacher coach Mrs. Philbert on their impressive achievement!
