For the fourth consecutive year, the Virgin Islands Energy Office hosted the Kidwind Challenge. This Challenge, which is the ultimate wind learning experience for students, draws participation from the territory’s private, parochial and public schools and eight (8) schools participated on March 10th.

The participants had to build a wind turbine that could be used to produce electrical energy. The turbine projects were judged on knowledge of subject matter, documentation, turbine design and energy produced in the wind tunnel.

After an entire day of judging, testing, and competing in the wind tunnel, the students from the St Thomas/St John SDA School were awarded first place. Representing the school were Aliya Benjamin, Kevin King and Khaleel Smith (as the alternate).

A certificate of participation and a trophy were awarded to the students and they will be representing the US Virgin Islands at the National Competition from May 24 to 25, 2017, in Anaheim, California. As is the norm, the winner of the challenge hosts the subsequent event and, as such, the St Thomas/St John SDA School will host the Kidwind Challenge in 2018.

The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) community on St. Thomas and St. John is an active body of believers which worships as 7 congregations; operates an accredited institution for students in elementary, junior high and high school; and, is engaged in neighborhood ministry coordinated by the North Caribbean Conference. The school’s motto is Committed to Excellence, and any student, who is desirous of obtaining a quality Christian education, is welcome to enroll in our school.
